Outline of the standard procedures of Exams and Assessments at the CMU (per the Student Handbook)

Basic Science

Procedures to participate:

Information concerning the specific exams scheduled are posted on the CMU www and disseminated by the Exams’ Coordinator (exams@cmumed.org).

All the finals at CMU are administered by the National Board of Medical Examiner’s. Neither Chief Proctor, Exam Coordinator nor Faculty are authorized to comment, alter, miss interpret or edit the grading in process. Exclusive Authority of NBME.

The final exams in the BS are only administered during the Finals per the Academic Calendar.

Eligibility of the students to start the Clinical Rotations at the CMU SOM CMC is determined exclusively by the Courses Directors and conveyed to the Faculty of the Student Performance Assessment Committee followed by posting on the students’ account.

The three attempts of the SBSE are allowed in the time span of the Finals. After the 3rd failed attempt, the student has to repeat the Course.
The three attempts of the CBSE are allowed. After the 3rd failed attempt, the student will be dismissed.
Passing all CBSE and SBSE are required to become eligible for USMLE exams.

The students have 24 h to contest the posted grades to the Courses Directors and in no-resolution to the SPAC within the next 24 h from the Directors’ decision. No appeals are considered after these deadlines.

Completion of each and every BS Course requires: completion of the entire Course including quizzes, ALAs, presentations, etc, and passing the National Board of Medical Examiners’
NBME CBSE –When a student completes the Basic Science division, they will take the NBME CBSE (Comprehensive Basic Science Exam).

 
Exams Procedures:

NBME Exam through Online Remote Proctoring -ORP

Medical Examiners’ (NBME) Comprehensive exams: CBSE every Last week of the month on Thursdays starting at 10.00 AM (Curaçao time) and cut off time is 15:15 PM sharp (Includes 15 minute optional break)

NOTE: All web examinations are preceded by a tutorial, which adds 15 minutes to the exam length shown.

 

The information below is important, so please read this email carefully.

The registration process will remain the same. We will send out an official announcement/registration email every Friday at the end of the day, providing the upcoming test date and the exams that are offered.

A friendly reminder on how the registration process goes:

  • Student must reply to the registration email, providing full name, student ID and exam of choice (NBME CBSE) to register for the exam.
  • The deadline to register and to complete payments is always on the Tuesday before the exam, at 12 PM (Curaçao time / GMT-4),  no exceptions!
  • Once registered, students who have registered for one of the Comprehensive exams will be invoiced **
  • Once the payment is completed, student must send an email to exams@cmumed.org to notify.
  • Once scheduled, student will receive the scheduling confirmation including instructions by the end of the day on Tuesday.
  • The day before the exam (Wednesday), students will receive the Zoom link to the online session by the end of the day.

 

** Fee Comprehensive exams

There is one standard fee for the NBME CBSE/CCSE, which is $200, and this fee must be paid to be scheduled.

Note: If you have recently participated in a CBSE or CCSE and are interested in scheduling a next attempt, please remember to take 30-day study period into account between the exams.

NBME Schedule Exam through Prometric:

When students request to be scheduled via Prometric and do not provide desired dates, copy and paste the following text:

To schedule your exam via Prometric, kindly provide me the following information:

–              Full name and student ID
–              Exam of choice (NBME CBSE)
–              Window start date (Earliest available date is in 28 days)
–              Mention if you want a 1- or 2-week window
–              Payment!

Please send this information to exams@cmumed.org. Note that the invoice has been submitted to your MyCMU account. Once payment is completed, please notify us so that I can proceed with scheduling.

Payments can be made via your MyCMU account or fill in the CC authorization form (to download from or website’s official forms) and send to finance@cmumed.org .

 

Prometric Exam Procedure After Scheduling

NBME will send you a scheduling permit and instructions. With this scheduling permit, you must go to or contact the nearest Prometric Center to book the appointment within the scheduled window. You can also book your appointment via their website.

Once you have completed the exam, you must wait for the window to close and after 48 to 72 hours, NBME will send us your results. As soon as we receive the results, we will send these to you.

Current passing scores for the course:

Grade A = Score: 90-100
Grade B = Score: 80-90
Grade C = Score: 70-80
Grade F =  Score: below 70
