Outline of the standard procedures of Exams and Assessments at the CMU (per the Student Handbook)

 

Clinical Science

Procedures to Participate:

NBME Core Shelf – When students are in between their Core Rotation which is about to finish can take their Shelf exam during or after the Rotation is completed.

NBME CCSE – After passing all 6 Clinical Core Shelf Exams, students can request to take the NBME CCSE (Comprehensive Clinical Science Exam).

Passing of the NBME CBSE will give you approval for participation in USMLE Step 1 and NBME CCSE for USMLE Step 2CK.

 

Exams’ Procedures:

NBME Exam through Online Remote Proctoring – ORP

As we work very hard to help you to meet the requirements of a School of Medicine of an accredited university, hereby we offer the remotely proctored from the HQ in Curaçao, the National Board of Medical Examiners’ (NBME) CCSE, every last week of the month on Thursdays at 10.00 AM (Curaçao Time / GMT-4). These exams will be administered along with the Clinical Core Shelf exams.

 

Comprehensive Basic Science Exam: Exam length – 5 Hours, 15 Minutes (Including 15 minutes optional break)

Comprehensive Clinical Science Exam: Exam length – 5 Hours, 15 Minutes (Including 15 minutes optional break)

NOTE: All web examinations are preceded by a tutorial, which adds 15 minutes to the exam length shown.

 

Clinical Science Shelf Exams

Family Medicine: Exam length – 2 Hours, 15 Minutes (No optional breaks)

Medicine: Exam length – 2 Hours, 45 Minutes (No optional breaks)

Obstetrics and Gynecology: Exam length – 2 Hours, 45 Minutes (No optional breaks)

Pediatrics: Exam length – 2 Hours, 45 Minutes (No optional breaks)

Psychiatry: Exam length – 2 Hours, 45 Minutes (No optional breaks)

Surgery: Exam length – 2 Hours, 45 Minutes (No optional breaks)

 

The information below is important, so please read this email carefully.

Registration process Email to – exams@cmumed.org

The registration process will remain the same. We will send out an official announcement/registration email every Friday at the end of the day, providing the upcoming test date and the exams that are offered. Students can write only 1 exam per week.

A friendly reminder on how the registration process goes:

  • Student must reply to the registration email, providing full name, student ID and exam of choice (NBME CCSE, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, OBGYN) to register for the exam.
  • The deadline to register and to complete payments is always on the Tuesday before the exam, at 12 PM (Curaçao time / GMT-4), no exceptions!
  • Once registered, students who have registered for one of the Comprehensive exams or are retaking one of the Clinical Core shelf exams, will be invoiced **
  • Once the payment is completed, student must send an email to exams@cmumed.org to notify.
  • Once scheduled, student will receive the scheduling confirmation including instructions by the end of the day on Tuesday.
  • The day before the exam (Wednesday), students will receive the Zoom link to the online session by the end of the day.

 

** Retake Fee Clinical Core Shelf exams

The fee for the first attempt of each shelf exam is included in the Clinicals invoice. Any attempt after the first has retake fee of $100 and this fee must be paid to be scheduled.

** Fee Comprehensive exams

There is one standard fee for the NBME CCSE, which is $200, and this fee must be paid to be scheduled.

Note: If you have recently participated in a CBSE or CCSE and are interested in scheduling a next attempt, please remember to take 30-day study period into account between the exams.

NBME Schedule Exam through Prometric:

When students request to be scheduled via Prometric and do not provide desired dates, copy and paste the following text:

To schedule your exam via Prometric, kindly provide me the following information:

–              Full name and student ID
–              Exam of choice (NBME CCSE/Shelf)
–              Window start date (Earliest available date is in 28 days)
–              Mention if you want a 1- or 2-week window
–              Payment!

Please send this information to exams@cmumed.org. Note that the invoice has been submitted to your MyCMU account. Once payment is completed, please notify us so that I can proceed with scheduling.

Payments can be made via your MyCMU account or fill in the CC authorization form (to download from or website’s official forms) and send to finance@cmumed.org.

 

Prometric Exam Procedure After Scheduling

NBME will send you a scheduling permit and instructions. With this scheduling permit, you must go to or contact the nearest Prometric Center to book the appointment within the scheduled window. You can also book your appointment via their website.

Once you have completed the exam, you must wait for the window to close and after 48 to 72 hours, NBME will send us your results. As soon as we receive the results, we will send these to you.
